Why Our Steel Columns & Beams Takeoffs Hold Up

A project-wide steel tonnage number does not show where the steel is being used. We break columns and beams down by member type, size, location, length, quantity, and weight so contractors can review the takeoff against the structural drawings.
Columns are measured by floor, elevation, size, and quantity where applicable. Beams and girders are separated according to framing plans and member schedules. This makes it easier to identify changes in steel sizes and verify material quantities before pricing or procurement.

Coordination Between Columns and Beams

Columns and beams cannot be measured independently without considering their structural connections. Beam framing at columns, transfer conditions, splices, moment connections, and changes in framing elevation can affect both member quantities and connection requirements.
We cross-check framing plans, schedules, elevations, sections, and details to maintain continuity between horizontal and vertical framing.

Steel Tonnage Takeoff

Every member is quantified individually before project-wide tonnage is calculated. This creates an auditable relationship between the drawings, member schedule, individual steel pieces, and total weight.
Tonnage can then be organized by floor, framing type, member category, or other project-specific breakdowns.
