The biggest risk in a concrete quantity takeoff isn't measuring wrong - it's applying one waste factor across every element on the job. A simple slab-on-grade pour and a heavily reinforced, complex wall pour don't waste material at the same rate, and a blended waste factor either overstates the easy pours or understates the hard ones. We apply waste factors per element type, based on complexity and reinforcing density, so the total yardage reflects what will actually be ordered.
We also break the takeoff out by individual pour, not just by total project volume. Concrete is bought and dispatched pour by pour, and a contractor working from a single project-wide total has no way to plan truck scheduling, sequencing, or day-of-pour logistics.
