A tonnage estimate tells you roughly how much steel a project needs. A bar bending schedule tells a fabricator exactly what to cut, how to bend it, and where it goes - and it's the document that actually drives fabrication pricing, not the raw tonnage number. Bars with complex bends, hooks, or non-standard shapes cost more to fabricate per ton than straight bars, even when the weight is identical. We produce BBS-level detail specifically because it's the difference between a rebar estimate that's directionally correct and one your fabricator can actually quote against without adding a contingency for unknowns.
We also flag congestion - areas where reinforcing is dense enough to slow placement, like beam-column joints or highly reinforced shear walls - since these areas take longer to place than open, lightly reinforced sections, and that placement labor difference belongs in the estimate rather than getting absorbed as an unplanned cost overrun once the crew is on site.

Reconciling With Concrete Quantities

Because rebar and concrete are almost always priced from the same structural set but bid to different subcontractors, quantities need to reconcile even though the scopes are separate.
