Shotcrete quantities cannot always be estimated accurately by applying a standard concrete rate to wall or surface area. Specified shotcrete thickness, surface geometry, reinforcement density, application method, rebound allowance, access conditions, nozzle requirements, and placement productivity can all influence the actual material and labor requirements.
We measure shotcrete surfaces by actual area and specified thickness, separating different application conditions where the project documents require different material or installation assumptions. This allows the estimate to reflect the project's actual sprayed concrete scope rather than relying on a generic square-foot allowance.
Our estimators review structural drawings, sections, details, specifications, reinforcement plans, geotechnical information where provided, and architectural or civil documents to identify changes in thickness, surface profile, reinforcement, access, and placement requirements.

Shotcrete Rebound and Waste Estimating

Material loss from rebound is an important consideration in shotcrete estimating. Rebound can vary depending on the application surface, reinforcement congestion, shooting angle, material mix, nozzle technique, thickness, and site conditions.
Rather than applying the same allowance blindly to every project, rebound and waste considerations are evaluated according to the documented application conditions and estimating assumptions. Where project specifications provide specific requirements, those requirements are incorporated into the estimate.

Coordination Across Shotcrete Components

Shotcrete frequently interfaces with reinforcing steel, excavation, foundations, retaining systems, waterproofing, drainage, anchors, embeds, and other construction scopes. Treating the shotcrete surface as a standalone quantity can therefore leave important cost components outside the estimate.
We coordinate shotcrete quantities with concrete wall estimating, footing estimating, and other applicable concrete scopes to identify shared boundaries and transitions. Where the project includes reinforcing mesh, rebar cages, soil nails, dowels, anchors, welded wire reinforcement, or other embedded components, these items can be quantified separately based on the available drawings and specifications.
