Why Our Shingle Roofing Estimates Hold Up

Roof geometry has a direct effect on shingle material requirements. A roof with multiple valleys, hips, dormers, and penetrations can require considerably more detailing and waste than a simple gable roof with the same footprint.
We measure the actual roof areas and separate different roof sections, slopes, and shingle types where applicable. Starter courses, field shingles, ridge caps, valley materials, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and other accessories are quantified separately so the estimate represents the complete documented roofing scope.

Coordination Across the Shingle Roofing System

A shingle roof assembly includes more than the visible shingles. Underlayment, ice and water protection where specified, flashing, drip edge, ventilation, starter shingles, ridge caps, valleys, and penetrations all contribute to the finished roof.
We coordinate the roofing takeoff with architectural roof plans, sections, elevations, details, specifications, and available framing information. This helps identify roof transitions, dormers, skylights, chimneys, penetrations, and other conditions that can affect quantities and labor.

Shingle Roof Area & Square Takeoff

Roofing quantities are based on the actual roof surfaces rather than simply using the building footprint. Slopes, roof sections, overhangs, dormers, valleys, hips, and other geometry are reviewed to establish the roof area.
The final quantity can be presented in roofing squares and material units so contractors can apply supplier pricing and installation costs.

Shingle Waste Estimating

Waste varies with roof complexity. Straight gable roofs generally have different cutting requirements than roofs with multiple hips, valleys, dormers, penetrations, and irregular sections.
We identify waste allowances based on project conditions rather than applying an arbitrary percentage without considering roof geometry.

Flashing & Roof Edge Estimating

Flashing and perimeter materials can be quantified separately, including drip edge, valley flashing, step flashing, counterflashing, pipe flashing, and other documented details.
Separating these components helps contractors avoid underestimating the accessory portion of the roofing package.

Shingle Roof Replacement Estimating

Roof replacement estimates can include tear-off, disposal, substrate preparation, underlayment, new shingles, flashing, ventilation, accessories, labor, and equipment where specified.
Existing roof layers and substrate conditions should be verified through project documentation or site inspection before finalizing replacement quantities.
