Why Our Concrete Placement Estimates Hold Up

Concrete placement costs are not determined by cubic yardage alone. A large, accessible slab pour can have very different production requirements from a congested column pour, elevated deck, deep foundation, or restricted-access wall.
We evaluate the actual placement conditions shown in the project documents and separate labor and equipment requirements by concrete element and placement method. This helps contractors account for concrete crews, pumps, conveyors, cranes, vibrators, finishing equipment, delivery coordination, and other resources that can materially affect the installed cost.
Pour size and sequencing are also considered where the plans and specifications provide sufficient information. Instead of applying one generalized placement rate to every cubic yard on the project, the estimate reflects differences in access, elevation, congestion, and placement complexity.

Coordination Across Concrete Placement Activities

Concrete placement depends on coordination between several trades and project activities. Ready-mix deliveries must align with pour sequencing, reinforcement and formwork must be ready before placement, and finishing crews must be available within the required placement window.
We coordinate placement quantities with concrete takeoff and element-specific scopes such as slab, beam, column, and wall estimating. Where project documents identify pumping, crane placement, conveyor systems, restricted access, elevated pours, or specialized placement requirements, those conditions are considered separately in the estimate.

Concrete Pumping Estimating

Concrete pumping can represent a significant portion of placement costs, particularly for high-rise construction, elevated slabs, deep foundations, congested sites, large pours, and projects with limited truck access.
We evaluate the documented site and structural conditions to determine whether pumping equipment, additional setup, extended lines, boom reach, or other pumping requirements may be applicable. Where pump requirements are specified or reasonably identifiable from the project documents, pumping labor and equipment can be separated from general concrete placement costs for clearer bid analysis.

Concrete Pour Crew and Productivity Estimating

Concrete placement productivity depends on the element being placed and the conditions surrounding the pour. Crew requirements for a slab are different from those for columns, walls, beams, footings, or elevated structural concrete.
Our estimates can account for the labor resources associated with placing, consolidating, screeding, finishing, and handling concrete according to the project scope. Where appropriate, production assumptions are adjusted for access, reinforcement congestion, placement method, elevation, and other documented constraints. This gives contractors a more useful labor basis than applying one average man-hour allowance to the project's entire concrete volume.
